I found this question from the facebook group. Many of the Amazon FBA experts recommended not to start into the business.
I also agree with other sellers.
Can I start the Amazon FBA business at $300?
Yes, you can! But, you may lose all your money in a few days. Of course, Amazon will start to charge extra fees for tons of things. You may end up spending more than your budget, $300 if you fail.
(If it's a private label product)
On the other hand, it's possible to be successful selling on Amazon if you find the perfect products, great images on your sales page, and all correct keywords.
I found products that are constantly selling without running PPC. One of them is a pretty cheap buying price product so that I can make decent profits. And, another one I am constantly selling is the expansive purchase product which is no other sellers are trying to sell on Amazon.
Both products, I don't run PPC. All I need is to check the listing to make sure I have my Buy Now button and send the products to the Amazon FBA when it's running out of inventory.
It was not easy to find these products.
I tried to sell so many different products, but most of them are not that great selling numbers without running PPC.
Here are some you should know before starting the Amazon FBA
Amazon fees: The business owners usually start the Amazon FBA business, hoping to make some great sales. And, they begin to struggle and get upset with Amazon fees. They usually have their stores and storage. All private label products they are selling at their stores should be popular and trendy.
They think about the display of the products for their buyers to find popular products easily in-store. When they make sales, they get profits.
When these business owners start Amazon business, they would complain about the Amazon storage fees, ranking factors, giveaways, reviews, and very small profits. Their physical stores and Amazon FBA are a totally different business model.
If you try to sell popular products which other sellers are already selling on Amazon, you may need to compete for prices, increasing more coupons, and giveaways to make your listing visible.
I have been working at the grocery store as a designer; I had to create ads every week. Each week, I received a price sheet that has organized the products profit margins. So, I can make a design which products are deeply discounted.
Did you know that the biggest grocery stores' profit margins are around .1~$5 per each product selling? Of course, not all products, but the most of daily products are that low.
Small profits are not a big issue.
When I find 20 different products that are selling 3 or more every day and have $5 pure profit per each product, 20x3x5, $300 earn each day. $9000 for a month earn.
This is my goal, and I am still actively testing many different products on the market.
Software: Software is not a must, but highly recommended for finding keywords and use them to your sales page. To me to research on products, to find keywords, running PPC, follow up emails to customers, check product ranking, protecting buy now buttons, and checking my listings are indexed keywords. With all these, I use the Helium10 software.
Buying Products from Alibaba or 1688 sites: You can easily use the Alibaba.com to find the products easily. Most of them will offer less than 100 units to buy. I highly suggest finding the product that is lightweight, not easy to break, and less than $1 per product.
Let's say, you purchase 50 units for $50 and $50 for shipping. $100

If you still want to try the Amazon business, this is what I will do.
I will visit the Walmart clearance section, and find good products and buy. Resell them to the Amazon.
With the Amazon, all you need is to find already ranked identical product listing and add mine with the lowest price I can sell. When I make sales, I send the product to the customers' addresses. Or, you can send the products to Amazon to start the FBA with small quantity products.
If you want to do a Dropship with Amazon works during the Christmas season, but after holidays, people prefer the Prime to purchase.
Amazon business is more likely to need the cash flow. If you can spend around $1000 for trying the Amazon business, I will highly suggest starting it. But, at $300 to start? I will say no.

FIND PROFITABLE PRODUCTS YOUR COMPETITORS IGNORE by Mommy Income
Finding profitable products to sell is on every seller’s priority list. The problem most sellers face is doing endless searches only to find highly saturated categories and products with no profit. Ugh!
Product research can be a real time waster if you do not have a process. The good news is you do not have to stay stuck in a circle when looking for profitable products.
Here are a few steps to perform proper product research.
Step 1: Start with a problem or need
Instead of looking for bestselling items or competitive data to find products, start with a problem or need. Every product on the market meets a specific need or solves a problem. For example:
A puppy owner purchases food to keep their dog living a long, healthy, active lifestyle. They look for the dog food that will best meet the nutritional needs of their canine companion instead of purchasing food designed for senior dogs.
An office worker looking for a solution that will eliminate pain in their feet, knees, and back may purchase a footrest for under their desk.
While looking for products to sell, think about who will buy the product and how they will use it. Ask yourself: What problem does the product solve? What need does it meet that sets it apart from other items in the marketplace?
Step 2: Niche down
Once you find a category or products, look for smaller sub-niches to find less saturated products you may have overlooked that have less competition.
We use MerchantWords to do a broad search in order to find these more specific and less competitive products. Here’s an example:
First, do a general search for “guitar parts.”
Next, scroll down to the “sweet spot” – these are the search terms with between 3000 and 6000 searches per month where you can find sub-niches. You can also find these keywords using the filters in the upper right corner. Some sellers might run for the hills thinking these numbers are really low, but we challenge you to rethink that.
In this 30-day search volume span, there are many hidden niches with very little competition. When the demand outweighs the supply, there is money to be made.
The further down you go on the list, the more detailed the keywords become. These are sub-niches ready for you to explore.
Step 3: Validate your idea with other platforms
While conducting product research, it is important to check other platforms. Compare your product ideas with the number of listings or posts on eBay, Etsy, Walmart, Pinterest, or other marketplaces. While reviewing these other sites, take note of similar products and listings to gain a new perspective on what sells well in the new sub-niche you have discovered.
Step 4: Look at the competition
Make sure to look at existing products to validate if the demand is greater than the supply.
Let’s say you’re researching "dish drying racks for recreational vehicles (RV)." You find that there are only a handful of products and 3000 searches a month. Great! There is room for your product.
On the other hand, if you found 3000 searches and 200 existing products in the same niche, you should start researching another niche. If demand is greater than supply, you have a potential winner. If supply is greater than demand, it’s time to move on to another niche.
The key to finding profitable products is looking where others aren’t. Plain and simple, your competition is lazy. They want the low hanging fruit – the easy to find products. A little extra digging into the keywords and exploring other platforms will give you a bigger picture of the marketplace, as well as a competitive advantage.

1. What is the Amazon Marketplace?
The Amazon Marketplace is one of the most well-known marketing channels for online retailers. To list products on the Amazon Marketplace, sellers are required to set up an account, and send Amazon a product feed.
As seen in the example below, Marketplace listings are the seller results that appear when a query is typed into the search box.
The Amazon Marketplace program does not link shoppers to a merchant’s site, as all transactions are performed on Amazon.com.
2. How Should I Sell on Amazon?
Below are the major ways you can sell on Amazon, and some qualifications to help you decide which selling option is best for your online store.

Sell TO Amazon
Selling to Amazon is an invite only program. Selling directly to Amazon grants Amazon ownership of your inventory, which they will market and sell to shoppers on Amazon.com.
How it works: Merchants or manufacturers sell their inventory (e.g. hats) to Amazon at wholesale rates. Once those items have been sent to Amazon, the seller is done with the products. Amazon pays for the inventory directly to the seller and maintains ownership of the products.
Amazon sells those products on the Marketplace (as Amazon) – choosing their own price and shipping options.

Selling to Amazon is an available option for manufacturers and virtually eliminates direct seller work including marketing, advertising, and even pricing.

A popular option for selling with Amazon is selling on Amazon.com. Today more than half of total sales on Amazon come from third-party sellers.
How it Works: Sellers list their products on the Amazon Marketplace, and sell items as 3rd party sellers.
Selling on Amazon is generally more work than selling to Amazon, but is also comes with greater levels of control and the potential for higher margins. Sellers on the Marketplace control shipping, prices and optionally fulfillment.
Sellers who sell on the Amazon Marketplace have different fulfillment options to choose from. Sellers can choose whether they want to handle fulfillment or let Amazon sort, package and ship products through their own fulfillment centers.
As a third party seller selling on the Amazon Marketplace you have the option to use Amazon’s fulfillment services:

If you are already selling on Amazon and are considering selling to Amazon, consider some of the elements below:

3. Should I Use Fulfillment by Amazon?
There are millions of third party sellers on the Amazon Marketplace worldwide, generating more than 50% of Amazon’s total sales.
If you sell on Amazon, or are looking to sell on Amazon as a third party seller, one of the first decisions you need to make is whether to use Fullfillment by Amazon (FBA) or to handle your fulfillment in house (or by a service).
Using FBA can significantly impact your sales and fulfillment efficiency, but FBA may not be a good choice for your online store.
What isFulfillment by Amazon(FBA)?
Fulfillment by Amazon, often referred to as FBA is a fulfillment choice for sellers on Amazon which allots fulfillment for sellers products to Amazon.
Amazon sells its own inventory on the marketplace alongside products from outside sellers. When a product from a third party merchant is purchased on Amazon, who ships that item depends on the fulfillment method selected by the retailer.

Merchants who choose to participate in FBA hand off fulfillment- packaging, sorting and shipping to Amazon. Amazon has more than 80 fulfillment centers in the US which handle fulfillment- both for itself and third party sellers.
Note: FBA is a fulfillment option which sellers can choose for any or all of their products. Sellers vary on the number of products they choose to fulfill (if any) using FBA, depending on their margins, product category, and related seller variables.
Why should I Use Fulfillment by Amazon?
Fulfillment by Amazon is a good option for merchants who are looking to increase shipping time and reduce time and money allotted to fulfillment.
Other FBA benefits for Amazon sellers include:
Less Business Operations– FBA eliminates fulfillment shipping efforts for sellers. Instead handling warehouse management & packaging (handling shipping, picking) and those associated fees, retailers can pass off those task to Amazon
Amazon Prime: Amazon Prime customers purchase more, and more frequently than traditional Amazon shoppers.
Using FBA increases product discover-ability as FBA products feature Prime shipping, and appear for Prime filtered searches.

Shipping Speed: For online shoppers, FBA means quicker shipping rates, Amazon Prime eligible shipping, as well as 24/7 Customer Service and delivery tracking through Amazon. FBA products are shipped from Amazon, so they process faster and ship faster than products sent directly from the retailer. How Much Does FBA Cost?
Selling on Amazon charges a percent of total sale profits. In addition to those fees, FBA charges fees based on:

For some sellers, FBA seems like an expensive option, but keep in mind FBA encompasses fees for all of fulfillment- costs including warehousing and shipping. Use Amazon’s Revenue Calculator to scope out whether your products will be profitable using FBA.
FBA Cost Considerations
Amazon Fulfillment impacts your margin for individual products, which arguably limits profitability. However, with the increase of total sale volume and exposure, FBA is likely a good investment for your online store. For example, you may make less money overall on a particular product such as a waterbottle, but you are likely to sell more waterbottles overall for a larger holistic profit.
Remember you’re not forced to use the FBA option for all of your products, so take the time to calculate which products are profitable to fulfill with FBA.
FBA may not be an option for your store depending on the competition surrounding your products, what products you sell, where your business is located, your margins, and other related variables.
FBA and Commingling
FBA products are sold by third-party merchants and need to be labeled and shipped to Amazon warehouses before Amazon can handling fulfillment using FBA. Amazon offers two labeling options for FBA, both which come with variables which may affect your profitability and time.
FBA Labeled Inventory- Require an individual label for each product sent to Amazon for FBA.
Stickerless/ Commingled FBA Inventory- Allow merchants to exclude an FBA label. Amazon will use product identifiers (e.g UPC) to group your products with similar commingled inventory.
Commingled Inventory requires less work with labeling, but groups your products with other sellers for faster shipping. Commingling issues can arise with damaged packaging and commingling fraud.
Consider both options and your products when choosing FBA labeling methods. Also, keep in mind you may want to choose one label method for a portion of your products.
Fulfillment by Amazon is a convenient fulfillment option which allows Amazon sellers to leverage Amazon’s resources to increase marketplace sales. Determine what your store budget, margin, and profitability is for Amazon as a whole and for specific products before deciding to leverage Fulfillment by Amazon.
4. What is the Cost to Sell on Amazon?
Amazon sellers can choose between a Professional or Individual selling plan. Individual sellers pay $0.99 for each item sold on Amazon, in addition to variable closing fees ranging from $0.45 to $1.35. Professional sellers pay variable closing fees and referral fee percentages ranging from 6% to 25% (an average of 13%). Professional sellers also pay $39.99 per month, but are exempt from the $0.99 per item fee.
Referral fees and variable closing fees are subtracted from the overall sale (including selling price, shipping and other charges such as gift wrap).
Note: Merchants who pay a monthly subscription fee of $39.99 to be a Pro Merchant Subscriber DO NOT have to pay the Amazon Marketplace $0.99 per item fee (good for merchants selling well over 40 products a month). If you sell more than 40 products a month then the Professional Seller Program is a no-brainer.

The Amazon Marketplace Referral Fee is essentially a percentage of your total item price (and gift wrap charges if applicable) that Amazon collects based on its CPA model.
For example, if you sell an automotive accessory on the marketplace for $85.99, Amazon will keep $10.32 (12%) of that revenue as referral fees.
